Types of hyperhidrosis

Excessive sweating can be primary and secondary, general and local:

  • General. It is manifested by increased sweating of the entire surface of the body.

The most dangers is primary type. This kind cannot be controlled. If the whether is cold and feet or palms are wet then it can cause other illnesses: flu, cough, sore throat. Be careful and always keep your hands and feet dry.

Symptoms and levels

Hyperhidrosis has several levels.

  1. Normal sweating of hands, feet, armpit or face. Does not give any discomfort in life.

  3. Excessive sweating of hands, feet, face, armpit. It gives discomfort. For example you cannot shake hands because they are sweaty; forehead is always wet; smell from shoes.
  4. All body is always sweaty.

During levels 3 and 4 sweating is not associated with activity, temperature and stress. It can be always or appear periodically for a long time.
Antiperspirants and deodorant

You can use them only for armpits. There will be no results in treatment for hyperhidrosis of hands and feet. Only iontophoresis machine can stop sweating those parts of body.
Antiperspirants are not medicament. They can give temporary effect, reduce sweating, remove the smell. With hyperhidrosis, it is better to buy them in a pharmacy. It is recommended to use them not often and they are good for levels 1,2.

Deodorants for hyperhidrosis are applied before bedtime so that the action begins in the morning. This is the optimal time for application, since you are sleeping and body is dry. The place of application must be dried, you can use a hairdryer.

All those ways are not the best treatment for hyperhidrosis. They give only temporary results.

Iontophoresis is a painless, but quite effective method against excessive sweating. The method is based on the penetration of an ionized substance through the skin under the influence of direct current. In this case, the skin is not disturbed.

When treating hyperhidrosis with iontophoresis procedures, the patient lowers his hands or feet into the baths previously filled with water. A special device at this time generates a electric current that passes through the water and has a healing effect. Iontophoresis machine is small and home use.

During procedure, you must remove all metal jewelry from yourself. If you have cuts, injured nails or other skin damage, then they should be lubricated with a cream that has a strong protective effect. After the iontophoresis procedures, special creams are prescribed to protect the skin. The duration of the session is from 20 to 40 minutes. Prescribe iontophoresis for hyperhidrosis once a day or every other day. The course of treatment is from 5 to 15 procedures. The number of sessions and the strength of the current are selected strictly individually for each patient, it is usually determined by a dermatologist. As soon as the desired result is achieved, the patient can reduce procedures from 1 time per week to 1 time per month.
